This policy explains how Almost Kiss (“Almost Kiss”, “we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses and protects your personal information when you visit our website and join our waitlist. Almost Kiss is an interactive fiction service intended for adults aged 18 and over. By using this site you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

• Information you give us. Your email address when you join the waitlist, and any preference you choose to share (for example, which story you vote to see next). If you email us, we receive the contents of that message.
• Information collected automatically. When you arrive from a link, we may record the campaign details attached to that link (known as UTM parameters — for example which video or channel referred you). We also collect standard usage data such as your device and browser type, approximate region, the pages you view and how you interact with them. Where you arrive from one of our advertisements, our advertising partner may also record that visit and any signup that follows it.

How we use your information

• To run the waitlist and send you launch news, new episodes and story updates.
• To understand which content and channels bring readers to us, so we can improve the site and our storytelling.
• To measure how our advertising performs, and to show our advertisements to people likely to enjoy our stories.
• To respond to your enquiries and provide support.
• To keep the site secure and meet our legal obligations.

Email & marketing

When you join the waitlist you consent to receive emails from us about Almost Kiss. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. We use Loops to manage our contact list and send these emails.

Analytics, advertising & cookies

We use analytics tools, including PostHog, to understand how the site is used. These tools may set cookies or similar identifiers on your device and collect the usage data described above.

We also use the Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram) to measure our advertising. It sets cookies and reports back to Meta when you visit the site, start a story, or join the waitlist. Meta may use this information to show you our advertisements and to build advertising audiences. You can control cookies through your browser settings, and you can manage how Meta uses your data in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us operate, and only as needed to provide the service:

• Loops — email and contact management.
• PostHog — website analytics.
• Meta Platforms (Facebook, Instagram) — advertising measurement and audiences.
• Vercel — website hosting.

We may also disclose information if required by law. These providers may store and process data on servers located outside your country, including in the United States.

International visitors

Almost Kiss is available worldwide. Wherever you are, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own (including the United States and Australia), which may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we take steps to ensure your information remains protected.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as you remain on our waitlist or as needed for the purposes above. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data, we will remove it from our active systems, except where we are required to keep it by law.

Your choices & rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, to withdraw consent, or to object to certain processing. Australian residents have rights under the Privacy Act 1988; visitors in the United States, United Kingdom, European Union and elsewhere may have similar rights under their local laws. You can unsubscribe from emails at any time, and you can contact us to exercise any of these rights at hello@almostkiss.com. If you have a concern we can’t resolve, you may lodge a complaint with your local privacy regulator (in Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner).

Children

This service is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “last updated” date above, and significant changes may be communicated by email.
