Privacy Policy
Last updated 17 September 2026
Almost Kiss is run by iListen Pty Ltd (ACN 670 895 824) in Australia. We handle personal information under the Australian Privacy Principles. This page says what we collect, why, who else sees it, and how to get rid of it.
The short version: we collect what the stories need in order to remember you, and nothing we don’t need. We don’t sell personal information to anyone, ever.
What we collect
- Your account: email address, and the name you choose to be called in stories. If you sign in with Google, we get your email and name from Google.
- Your age declaration: the month and year of your birth. Not the day.
- Your reading: which stories and chapters you’ve opened, where you got to, the choices you made, your ratings, hearts and reactions.
- What you type into a story: the free-text answers you give a love interest.
- Your subscription status: which plan you’re on and when it renews. Not your card — see below.
- Technical and usage data: device type, rough location from your IP address, pages opened, errors. Used to keep it working and to see which stories land.
- How you found us: the link or campaign you arrived through.
We never see your card
Payments go to Stripe, which acts as merchant of record. Your card number goes to Stripe, not to us. We only ever learn that a payment succeeded, which plan it was for, and when it renews.
The part worth knowing about
When you answer a love interest in your own words, that text is sent to an AI language-model provider so the story can understand it and write you a reply that fits. Today that provider is Anthropic (Claude), and for explicit scenes, when those launch, Mistral.
Your text is sent without your name or email attached. These providers process it to return a response; under our agreements with them it is not used to train their models. The same text is also checked automatically for a narrow set of safety categories, and anything flagged is kept separately for review rather than written into your story.
If you’d rather nothing you write leaves the service, use the tappable choices instead of the free-text box. The stories work either way.
Who else handles your data
These are the companies we use to run Almost Kiss. Most of them are in the United States.
- Supabase — the database and your login.
- Vercel — hosting for this website and the reader.
- Stripe and RevenueCat — payments and subscription status.
- Anthropic, and later Mistral — the language models described above.
- PostHog and Sentry — product analytics and crash reports.
- Resend — the emails we send you.
- Expo — push notifications, once the apps ship.
Because they’re overseas, your information is stored and processed outside Australia, mainly in the United States. We only use providers that commit to protecting it.
Keeping it, and deleting it
We keep your account and reading data for as long as your account exists. Delete your account from Settings in the app and it goes — account, reading progress, choices, the things stories knew about you. Some records we have to keep for a while longer: payment and tax records, and any safety-flagged content, both for up to seven years.
Analytics and crash data are kept in aggregate and aren’t tied back to you after your account is gone.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@almostkiss.com and we’ll answer within 30 days.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au. If you’re in the UK or EU, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Cookies
We use the cookies needed to keep you signed in, and a small amount of analytics to understand which stories readers finish. No advertising cookies and no third-party ad tracking.
Not for under-18s
Almost Kiss is an adult service. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has made an account, email us and we’ll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll email you before it takes effect.
